I tried to interrupt again.  “Sir, I am just looking for the…”

He continued on.  “When I returned home, you can bet your boots I didn’t waste any time putting a ring on that girl’s finger and changing her last name.  The babies came soon after.  Only four of the six we had lived to be adults, but we had a time with each one.  Then they started having children, and every newborn’s first stop out of the hospital was always our house.  The kids laughed about ‘needing Mom’s blessing before it seemed real’.  She was the even better as a grandmother than she had been as a mother.  She said she was well-seasoned, like an old cast-iron skillet, by the time the grandchildren started coming along.  I don’t know about seasoning.  She always had a hot temper when she thought someone was being mistreated.  She was never afraid to discipline the kids herself, though.  No ‘wait till your father gets home!’ at my house.”  he paused to chuckle softly.  “She has always been the most passionate woman I have ever met.  God really blessed me with the girl.”
