library cards

Step 1: Verify your Library District

The first step to getting a library card is to find out what library district you live in. This can be found on your voter registration card. If you don't have your voter's registration card, the librarians at the Rochester Library are happy to assist you in determining the library district in which you reside. Call or visit the library today.

Step 2: Verify your Address

If you reside in the Rochester Library District, please bring in a picture ID card that has your current address, or a picture ID card and an item such as a piece of mail that lists your current address. There is no charge for a library card if you live within the Rochester Library District.

Not in the Rochester District?

If you do not live in an area that has a tax supported library you may purchase a non-resident card for $138 a year. This fee includes a card for everyone in one household, and reflects the average amount that taxpayers within the Rochester Library District pay each year in taxes to support the library.

What's a Reciprocal Borrower?

If you have a library card from any library in the Rolling Prairie Library System, you may use your card at the Rochester Public Library. This includes the public libraries in Springfield, Chatham, Lincoln, Taylorville, Decatur and the surrounding Central Illinois Area. See a map of the Rolling Prairie Library System and other Library systems in Illinois.
