Registration for all summer programs begins at Noon on Monday, June 8
Get ready for a summer full of fun and games! This year’s theme for Summer Reading is “Read on the WILD SIDE”. Our program is open to all children between the ages of 3 and 18. During our fun-filled eight-week venture, you’ll have the chance to participate in craft days, game days and programs all about animals, some tame and some not so tame! Plus, you’ll have the chance to win great prizes by signing up and fulfilling your reading contract. We will feature different programs for different age groups: Explorers for 3-year-olds to kindergarten, Trackers for 1st- 6th grade, and Safari Readers for 7th grade and older. Grades refer to the grade the child will be entering in Fall 2009.
The Whip Guy

World Champion Whip Cracker & Entertainer
Inspired by the film Indiana Jones, Chris taught himself how to crack a whip in the backyard of his home. Now, a two-time world champion whip artist, and two-time Guinness World Record Holder, Chris brings his unique show to Rochester Library to kick off a summer of reading fun!
All ages are welcome and no registration is required.

Stories, activities, crafts and games in our various summer reading themes are @ the Library on the following afternoons at 1:00 p.m.
June 16: "Going on an Elephant Hunt"- Join us for HUGE ELEPHANT FUN! (Advance registration required)
June 24: "Mobile Zoo"- Decatur Scovill Zoo is bringing the Zoo to us with a unique hands-on animal presentation! (Advance registration required)
June 30: "Bingo Day"- Enjoy an afternoon of BINGO, BINGO and more BINGO!
July 7: "Monkey around @ the library" - This program will be as much fun as a barrel of monkeys! (Advance registration required)
July 21: "Jungle Cats"- Learn about the different cats prowling in the jungle! (Advance registration required)
For All ages
Drop by the library between 1:00 and 4:00 on the following days to enjoy making crafts or play a game or two with your friends. There's something different for all ages and no registration is required:
July 15: "Wild About Crafts"- Join us for lots of wild crafts and fun!
July 29: "Game Day Fun" - This afternoon is filled with games, races, and other sporting events.
Teen Game Night 7-9pm (Advance registration required)
July 14: Junior High teens are you ready to play? Join us for a night of WII games. Snacks will be provided.
"Safari Supper" Potluck Picnic – Tuesday, August 11, 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Join in the fun at the annual summer reading awards picnic in Rochester Community Park on West Main Street. After games and activities, enjoy a potluck picnic – the library provides hotdogs, buns, beverages and condiments. Please bring a dish to share and your own table service – plates, silverware, cups. After dinner, awards will be presented. Registrations accepted through August 10.
Programs for Preschoolers
Toddle On Over
This storytime is for children 18-40 months and a loving adult. Stories, music, movement and crafts are shared. Advance registration is required. Toddle On Over meets the following days this summer at 10:30 a.m.

Preschool Storytime
Preschool Storytime is for children 3 years old on up. Each storytime last from 30-45 minutes and includes stories, songs, games and crafts. Advance registration is required. Preschool Storytime meets the following Thursdays this summer at 10:30 a.m.
June 18 & 25 July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30
Thanks to the Friends of Rochester Library who provided funds for our public performance rights, we are once again able to have movie matinees this summer! The movies will be shown on the “large screen” in the Community Room, making it a theatre style experience. Popcorn will be served. You may bring a pillow or blanket to be more comfy while watching the movie. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required. Showtime is 1:30 pm.

Sampson is a lion on display at the zoo in New York City's Central Park, and holds court over all the other animals. When his son Ryan is crated up and sent to another zoo, Sampson and his pals set out on a rescue mission in the Big Apple.

Mowgli is a boy who has been raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. When the wolves hear that the fierce man-hating tiger Shere Khan has returned, they decide to send Mowgli to a local "man tribe" for his own safety.

Deep in the heart of Africa, the Thornberry's are filming their latest action-packed wildlife show. They are ready for anything except the greedy poachers lurking in the jungle.
July 2 Animalia Not Rated 87 minutes
11-year-olds Zoe and Alex are swept from their local library into Animalia, a world of talking animals!
July 9 Tarzan Rated: G 88 minutes
Raised by gorillas, Tarzan has made the jungle his home, the animals his friends and developed the instincts of a jungle animal. But with the appearance of humans in the jungle, two very different worlds are about to become one.
July 16 Open Season Rated: G 86 minutes
A performing grizzly bear named Boog, who has been domesticated by a park ranger, helps his deer friend Elliot escape from a hunter. The two animals escape to the forest and become lost just as hunting season opens.
July 23 Racing Stripes Rated: PG 102 minutes
A traveling circus accidentally leaves behind a baby zebra. The baby is then rescued by a horse farmer Nolan Walsh, who takes him home to his young daughter Channing. "Stripes" is soon introduced to the farm's misfit troupe of barnyard residents.
July 30 George of the Jungle Rated: PG 92 minutes
George, a buff and lovable klutz, saves his animal friends from poachers.
August 6 Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
Rated: PG 89 minutes
Follow Central Park Zoo animals including Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo, along with the psychotic penguins, the monkeys, and the lemur leaders as they are now unexpectedly stranded in the middle of Africa.
