Friends of Rochester Library

WHO WE ARE AND WHY:

The Friends of the Rochester Public Library is a non-profit organization of local individuals who share a common belief that a good library can and should be a valuable community asset and that a good library is extremely important to the intellectual and cultural growth of our community. Because we share this belief, the Friends of Rochester Public Library work together to promote the continued development and improvement of Rochester Public Library.

WHAT WE DO AND HOW:

The Friends supplement Library services, books and equipment not provided for by public funds. We also sponsor programs that include the Summer Reading Program, the Children's Christmas Party, the Cabin Fever Club and several other Children and Adult activities. Funds are generated by our annual membership drive, annual book sale, and several fund raisers that we initiate throughout the year.

Friends of the Rochester Public Library board usually meets the second Thursday of each month (except June through August, and December) at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

Meeting Dates for 2008:  January 10, February 14, March 13, April 10, May 8 (annual membership meeting) September 11, October 9, & November 13.

What have your Friends
done for you lately?
Sponsor Cabin Fever—This reading program for grownups has a theme and a party with prizes. Who says winter is dull? Who says fun is just for kids?

Organize and Run THE book sale—Every year there are SOOOO many books and SOOOO many buyers! People come from MILES AROUND for this event because it is so carefully planned and Friends make it easy to shop for great book bargains. OK, yes, there’s a book sale during the July 4th celebration too!
Make donations—Friends have the opportunity to sponsor special events or make special purchases. Using the Librarians’ wish lists Friends help fill the shelves, even get the shelves!
Fund-raising—Come up with ideas or help with some we have for future projects.
Poster Person—Be the one who gets to visit schools, churches, business in the area and post Library event
announcements. Get the scoop in what is going on in town!
Be in a parade—Participate in the July 4th events—Shhhhh! You’ve seen us there.
Christmas Party—Ask around; children will tell you their Friends know how to throw a party. Santa, elves, games, treats…
Seniors Programs—Support and sponsor new programs for the growing population of mature readers.

These are just a few of the projects. Our own wish list of what we’d like to do grows each year. (Keep reading…)

An Unabashed Plug
for the Board

The Friends Board is a great group to be a part of and they get together once a month at the
Library.  Decisions are made about funding. Reports are delivered about projects. Updates are given on all sorts of things—don’t miss out
another year!

WE NEED MORE NEW MEMBERS ON THE BOARD.
If you:
Have children or grandchildren in any area school...
Have a love of books, tapes, videos, DVDs, CDs…
Have a desire to see things happen…
Want to show your support…
Want to give back…

Then you:
BELONG ON THE BOARD!
Usually we meet the second Thursday of the month @ 6:30, but check at the library to be sure!

The Friends of Rochester Public Library
are looking for a LOT OF
GOOD PEOPLE. Come be one of them starting in 2007!
